All I Want for Christmas is Mountains

All I want for Christmas is mountains.
No desire for expensive gifts; no shiny jewels or cashmere sweaters; no want for high-end furniture or lavish vacations.
I have enough clothes and shoes . I don’t care about the new iPhone. My car runs just fine and my cozy house is just the right size.
All I want for Christmas is mountains.
Where the smell of pine weaves through the breeze and wildflowers brush my knees.
Where rocky trails and buttery paths greet; and the crackling of leaves and twigs beneath my feet.
All I want for Christmas is mountains.
Where the rhythm of my heartbeat is audible; and all my senses enlivened.
Where conversation with friends is uninterrupted; where the only distraction is a radiant sunset.
All I want for Christmas is mountains.
Where I go to strengthen my legs; my heart; my mind.
Where I feel wild and beautiful; where I remember my inner child.
All I want for Christmas is mountains.
To run their ridges and joyfully summit their peaks.
Where high above I survey below and see hundreds of miles around me.
Where I pause in deep thankfulness; where I remember my smallness; where my soul is rejuvenated.
All I want for Christmas is mountains.
Not because I worship them, but because I feel closer to the One who created them; because He knows my every step and hears my every word; because He’s the only one who completely understands the ins and outs of every inch of imperfect me.
